The Minister for Communications Ursula Owusu-Erkuful has slammed the MP for Ningo Prampram describing, him as a liar.

The Minister debunked assertions that the AirtelTigo sale to Ghana cost the nation $25 million.

According to her, the good negotiation skills resulted in Ghana purchasing Airtel Tigo for just a dollar.

She has since challenged the MP to providence evidence to his claims that Ghana bought the comp0any for $25 million.

The Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Communications Committee, Samuel Nartey George, recently asked the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, to provide more details on the government’s takeover of AirtelTigo.

“I believe that the Minister of Communications must give us more details. She must give us the true state of AirtelTigo. She must give us a plan on what they are going to do with that asset,” he said

“Government used to have 30 percent shares in Airtel but the government failed to make the capital injection into Airtel. And as of 2018, when Airtel appeared before the parliamentary committee, they told us the government’s 30 percent had been revalued to 3 percent because of the failure to do investment. Government has shares in Vodafone. Vodafone is also complaining that the government is not making the requisite investment.”

“How is it possible that a government that is not able to make an investment for a 30 percent holding in an entity will get the requisite capital to buy a whole network to do the requisite investment and run it well?” Sam George asked.

But in a short reply, the Minister wrote: ”Some people find it very difficult to believe we can negotiate good deals for government. I signed the AirtelTigo contract. We acquired it for just a dollar.

Someone, an MP, says he heard me say we paid $25 million. A barefaced lie…. blatant untruth.

Please ask Sam George where he heard that. Then Sit back and listen to long, English grammar and drama…. just keep your eyes on the ball. How much did we pay to acquire the company? 1 dollar, Simple!!”
